Robert L. Beckett Senior Complex
The Deming Luna County Commission on Aging, Inc. (COA) manages the Deming Senior and the Deming Luna County Adult Day Care Facility. The Building was named "The Robert L. Beckett Senior Complex" in honor of former Deming Mayor, Robert Beckett. The late Mr. Beckett served on the Board of Directors of the Commission on Aging for eight years, three of which he served as Chairman. For many years he played a critical role through his advocacy efforts in obtaining funding for the services and programs provided to the senior citizens of Luna County, as well as in the massive expansion of the Center performed in 2001/2002. In 2008, Mr. Beckett was named Outstanding Senior Citizen in the state of New Mexico by the Aging and Long Term Service Department.
The objective of the Robert L. Beckett Senior Complex is to be a resource to older adults in Luna County through on-site visits or telephone calls, finding answers to questions concerning Federal, State, and local programs, services and benefits that are available. The Complex is also a place of congregation for meals, recreational activities, health promotions, exercise and transportation services as well as the provision of an Adult Day Care program.
The services and programs provided by the Deming Luna County Commission on Aging include a suggested donation for seniors 60 years of age or older and for spouses of, widows/widoweres of anyone who is 60 years of age or older. Staff and Guests who are under this age criteria and are not a spouse, widow or widower of are required to pay full cost for meals. A posting of the full cost of meals is located in the lobby area of the Complex. Donations and fees are very important for the operation and availability of the services and programs offered.
