TRANSPORTATION

This service provides transportation to senior citizens living in the City of Deming, the Village of Columbus and Luna County.  The age requirement is any senior citizen 60 years or older or a spouse or widow/widower of any one age 60 or older.  There is a suggested donation for this service with the age requirement.  If a guest under 60 years of age uses the service, full cost will be charged.

Weekly transportation is scheduled for doctor appointments, shopping, banking, beauty/barber shop, or any other appointments that a senior may have.  Doctor appointments need to be scheduled as far in advance as possible. The Center has 4 wheelchair accessible vans for service also.  Transportation is provided to the Village of Columbus one day per week.  Individuals are brought into Deming to the Center for lunch and for additional shopping before returning back home to Columbus.  A transportation schedule is available for pick up at the Center.

 

HomeMaker

This service is provided to at-risk seniors, assisting them with meal preparation, shopping, money management, using the telephone, and other light household chores.  This service has an age requirement of 60 years or older and requires an in-home assessment before service starts.

To qualify for this service, an in-home assessment is performed.  There must also be no other individuals living in the home that can perform the service. If you, or someone you know, is homebound, age 60 or older and are unable to perform activities of daily living, call the Center at (575) 546-8823 and ask for ask for In Home Service Department.  The e-mail address is [email protected].

 

CONGREGATE MEALS

Meals are provided to senior citizens 60 years of age or older, or a spouse or widow/widower of someone who is 60 years of age or older at a suggested donation. Guests who do not meet the age requirements have to pay full cost for the meal.

Meals are served Monday-Friday from 11:00am to 12:30pm.  Meals are 1/3 DRI and a menu can be picked up at the center.

 

Home Delivered Meals

The Senior Center provides home delivered lunches to seniors that are assessed as homebound and unable to prepare meals for themselves.  The same criteria are followed on the age requirements as is for congregate meals.  The meals are the same meals served in our congregate setting.  Food is delivered in a plastic, re-usable tray that can be reheated in the microwave or the oven, between 10:30am and 12:15pm, Monday through Friday.  Weekend meals are frozen and delivered on Fridays to seniors who have been assessed at-risk.  The Center delivers to seniors in the Village of Columbus three days a week. A frozen meal is delivered to this location for Tuesday and Thursday.

To qualify for this service, a nutrition screening assessment is performed.  There must also be no other means of preparing meals in the home. Adult Day Care

The Adult Day Care program provides supervised activities and socialization for adults who have dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or physical and /or mental disabilities.  Trained staff plan a program designed to entertain and challenge participants.

The Program is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 4:00pm and transportation is available to and from the Center. Prior to admission a participant must have a doctor’s certification of need. An appointment will be set up after this is received to complete an assessment. This program is sponsored by the Deming Luna County Commission on Aging at no charge to the participant. Funding is obtained under contract with the NCNMEDD Non-Metro Area on Agency, Aging & Long Term Services and the City and County Governments.

To qualify for this service, a doctor must submit a letter of need or a referral must be submitted from Adult Protective Services. If you, or someone you know, is in need of this service, call the Center at (575) 546-8823 and ask for Debbie Curtis or stop by and see the facility.

 

REspite Care

This service is provided to senior citizens who need respite care in their home environment, allowing for a brief period of relief or rest for the caregiver.  This service has an age requirement of 60 years or older, must have a caregiver for the client and requires an in-home assessment before service starts.

INformation & Assistance

The Senior Center provides information and assistance concerning Federal, State and local resources that are available to senior citizens in Luna County.  The primary goal of the Center staff is to provide a place for one-stop answers for services, programs and any other information needed by the client whether over the telephone or having the client come into the Center.
